McClure Spring Picnic – 6/1/23, 5:00-7:00 (Converted from “BBQ” to “Picnic”!)

Maverick families!!! It’s been a minute since we were able to be together for a meal and some joy!  Preceding the pandemic, McClure had so many fun events for families and staff and now we are gradually bringing these back…we’ve missed you!

Please come to our Spring McClure Picnic (recently converted from BBQ! 😊).  We’ll have dinner for you but you are also welcome to wander over to the Thursday Market for some yummy items.  Staff will be here to participate!

If your McClure student wants to participate, please make sure to come with him/her/them or assign them to an adult McClure family friend. This is not an event where McClure staff are supervising. It is a community-building event and we would LOVE to see you there!

We can’t wait to see you!

Junteenth Celebration

The McClure Equity team, in partnership with PTSA, is planning a wonderful celebration for Juneteenth this year. On Tuesday June 20 all students will participate in a series of activities learning about the history of Juneteenth and celebrating Black culture. They will learn African drumming and dancing, participate in an educational scavenger hunt on the field, create works of art that will become permanent installations in our entry way and take part in a celebratory picnic lunch. We’re excited to start this new tradition at McClure!

Snacks…and water – Please talk to you McClure student!

Some of our kids are reporting being hungry during their school day.   Many of us have noticed that some students are not eating lunch. When asked, some of them say, “I’m not hungry” but then also some of them come down to the office looking for snacks.  We also see kids eating candy and chips during the day which we don’t police (unless being eaten inside classrooms).

I thought this might be helpful information for some of our families that may warrant a check in with your students about how they are nourishing their bodies and minds during the school day. It is hard to really think and learn on an empty stomach!

Kids are allowed to have small (preferably nutritious) snacks at school in their lockers. They just aren’t allowed to eat in classrooms. They can certainly have a little breakfast bar or banana during passing period.  Hope this is in some way helpful!

McClure All-school Kickball Tournament – it’s SO fun!!

We have so many exciting activities happening this spring, I thought I’d take a second to let you know some of the fun that’s been going on around here!  First, for the past few weeks our entire school has been participating in a kickball tournament through our Advisory classes.  It has been a-maz-ing! Lots of camaraderie, teamwork, strategy…and some big feelings!  Thank you to Ms. Goodell and our fantastic ASB for arranging this.  By end of day today, we will have only 9 teams left in the running. Let’s go teams!!
