Oppressive Language
Recently, we have become aware of instances where oppressive language has been used, both in person and online in the McClure community. This behavior is concerning and goes against the values of creating a welcoming and inclusive space in our school.
We believe it is crucial to educate our students about the impact of their words and actions. Students participated in an advisory lesson this Monday on oppressive language, bullying and cyberbullying. Language that is hurtful or discriminatory can have lasting effects on individuals and the community. We encourage students to speak to a trusted adult or submit an incident report if they are experiencing unwelcome attention in school or if they are aware of online situations that are creating harm in our community.
We encourage you to have open conversations with your children about the importance of using respectful language and being mindful of their online presence. Here are a few points to consider discussing:
- Understanding Oppressive Language: Explain what oppressive language is and why it is harmful.
- Empathy and Respect: Emphasize the importance of treating others with kindness and respect, both in person and online.
- Digital Footprint: Discuss how their online actions can have long-term consequences and the importance of maintaining a positive digital footprint.
- Reporting and Support: Encourage them to speak up if they witness or experience any form of bullying or discrimination. Incident reports are in classrooms and office.
Together, we can create a safe and supportive environment for all students. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to fostering a respectful community.

McClure Race & Equity Team Recruitment
McClure’s Racial Equity Team (RET) would like to extend an invitation to McClure parents/guardians to join the team for the 2025-26 school year. McClure’s RET has been in a highly functioning leadership body in our school for the past 7+ years. Racial Equity Teams (RETs) are key levers of mobilizing antiracist impacts across the district and are comprised of a broad coalition of school staff at building sites that are tasked with advancing Board Policy 0030 – ensuring education racial equity.
They accomplish this through planning and enacting solutions by action planning and conducting racial equity analyses to: make antiracist systems change, benefit Black and Brown students, staff, and families; build racial equity capacity across the school community, and the implement of ethnic studies and other antiracist teaching practices.
RETs collaborate with school administration, BLTs, students, families, and other school-based entities. It is hard work but necessary and our collective knowledge, learning, and insight lift our school! If you are interested, please reach out to me, Principal Jennings, and we can start the application process from there!
