HIMS Friday News
March 14, 2025
Good afternoon and Happy Friday Hamilton Families!
We would like to thank the PTSA for the staff appreciation lunch that was prepared for HIMS staff on Thursday, March 13th. The Teachers, Administrators and support staff really enjoyed the delicious meal!
Thank you to Ballard High School Arts Musical Department:
I wanted to thank the students and staff from the musical arts department at Ballard High School for bringing their students to Hamilton so that they could perform during breakfast last Friday, 3/7/25. The jazz band and chorus were great and our middle school students really enjoyed their visit! This is an ongoing effort to introduce our students to the various high school options that our rising 9th graders will have in the performing arts programs as they enter high school.
Yondr Pouch Reminder:
Parents, please remind your child to have their Yondr Pouches with them prior to coming to school in the morning, phones must be in put in the pouch before entering the building, no exceptions. If the phones are out, they will be confiscated by an administrator and placed in the office for parents to pick up. Thank you supporting our “Phones away for the day & pouch-up policy, it is making a difference.”
Hawk Day Celebration Thank you!
We would like to thank the HIMS staff members and the parent volunteers who helped support our end of the quarter “Hawk Day” Celebration! Thank you for acknowledging our students’ hard work in their successful completion of the third quarter!
Lincoln High School Exhibitions:
Lincoln High School is excited to invite Hamilton International Middle School to our annual Exhibitions, a student-led, post-summative, public celebration of learning where students present their work in a variety of creative ways with peers, teachers, families and community members.
This year’s Exhibitions will take place on June 3rd from 4:30–7:00 PM at Lincoln High School, with offerings from local food trucks.
By attending, you will have the opportunity to engage with unique student exhibits that highlight innovation, passion, and real-world impact. Visitors will also play an active role in affirming the belief that students’ work can really matter—not only abstractly in the future, but right now, and beyond the boundaries of the school. From passion projects rooted in political advocacy and hands-on science demonstrations (including pancakes served with a side of food science!) to musical performances and galleries featuring the next generation of artists, there’s something for everyone.
We would love for Hamilton International Middle School’s staff, students, and their families to be part of Lincoln’s Exhibition experience.
We are looking forward to celebrating with you!

PTSA News 3/14:
Thanks for all the volunteering this week at Hawk Day and for Staff Appreciation – and don’t forget to come to Pi Night tonight, in the Commons from 6-8 pm!
Important Volunteering Needs Tonight: Remember, you must be an approved SPS volunteer, specifically at HIMS, to volunteer in the building during the school day. If you have never volunteered before, or need to update your volunteer status, follow these links: Apply to volunteer with SPS for the first time. Renew or edit your volunteer application. Also, you must show your ID in the front office and have it verified, even if your volunteer portal says you are “eligible” to volunteer. You can swing by the front office and do this anytime. Pi Night! Tonight from 6-8 pm: We still need volunteers! Join the fun! This is the biggest all-school event of the year, and we need your help. It includes pizza for sale, free pie to eat, pie-eating contests, a Pi recitation contest and more. We will need volunteers to donate pies and to assist on the evening of the event serving pie, judging, etc. Please consider volunteering to make this night a success! Pi/e Night Volunteer Signup

Our 7th grade rep Jema Turk is putting together this event with Figurehead on Stone Way. They are offering a PTSA donation with each check!
Other News & Needs: From the Tech Committee: Here’s how to monitor your students’ cell phone use! With stricter, better-enforced policies and Yondr pouches this year, teachers and admin report that students’ cell phone use during school hours has Dramatically decreased – but parents and guardians can keep the momentum going by ensuring students aren’t using them during school hours (e.g. in the bathroom). Check out this video that HIMS parent Matt Corddry made that shows how to check Let’s “raise the paddle” for the BSU, the JSU and the Steel Pan program. Affinity groups are raising money for educational school trips to nationally recognized museums. The Steel Plan Band program needs much more support as it gets up and running! Please consider making donations to the following PayPal links: BSU (Black Student Union) trip to Washington, DCJSU (Jewish Student Union) tip to Los AngelesSteel Pan Band ProgramAnd while we’re at it: HIMS PTSA all-purpose donations Watch this space for another 6th grade social activity with parent volunteers needed! We were so sad to cancel the 6th Grade Winter Social a couple of weeks ago! We needed ~25 parent volunteers to pull off this event, and that may have been unrealistic, or maybe the post-break timing was tough. We’ll keep trying!
