Hello Maverick Nation! Happy last day of March…finally!! One more week until Spring Break!
Important Dates
Mark your calendars and please consider volunteering for any or all of the following super fun Spring events at McClure:
- 8th Grade Beach Day – Golden Gardens, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27
- 8th Grade Celebration – parade ALL around McClure Middle School and then Parent/student get together in the park with refreshments following!! 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, June 21
- Help with set up, balloon arch (amazing!), refreshments, crowd control, music. (We’ll take care of getting the kids around the building in a staggered, orderly way so parents can actually see them!)
- McClure Field Day – all school, Big Howe Field 1:00-2:45, June 23
- Help with games, popsicles, bouncy houses, etc.!!
Nurse Jess Calhoun Leave
Nurse Jess will be on family medical leave starting April 17. Our McClure health room will continue to be staffed during this time with a registered nurse. To reach the nurse during school hours, please call the health room desk at 206-252-1907 or the nurse cell phone number directly at 206-573-4956.
McClure PTSA Proposed Budget Amendment Vote
Ballots on a proposed PTSA budget amendment have been emailed to all McClure PTSA members.
Please check the email used when joining the PTSA (including spam folder). Ballots are due by Sunday, April 2.
If you are a member and didn’t receive a ballot, please contact secretary@mccluremavericks.org.

Enrollment Now Open for Family Connectors University
- What: 10-week online parent education course
- When:
- Orientation: April 4 at 6-6:30 p.m.
- Course: Tuesdays, April 18-June 20 at 6 p.m.
- Cost: This 2-unit class costs $39.42 and we offer scholarships!

Family Connectors University is now enrolling for the fall term! All SPS families are invited to join North Seattle College’s Family Connectors University (FCU), a family-focused online course designed to help parents and caregivers support their child’s learning and growth.
FCU topics can include:
- Helping your child with learning
- Social Emotional Learning ideas for home
- Becoming a supportive partner at your school
- Helping your child with ‘big emotions’
- Supporting your child with reading and math
- Talking to kids about race, racism, and antiracist actions
Take this course in real-time or attend offline at a time that works for you. The class takes place online via Zoom for 10 weeks beginning Tuesday, April 18 at 6-7:30 p.m.
Parents can participate synchronously or asynchronously, as sessions will be recorded. The course is facilitated by NSC Parent Education Instructor Lea Evans and SPS Family Partnerships Coordinator Asosa Sailiai, and special guest speakers.
Please join us for a quick orientation on Tuesday, April 4, 6-6:30 p.m.
We’ll answer your questions, give you details on how to sign up through North Seattle College, and tell you how to apply for a need-based scholarship. If you can’t make it live, let me know. The orientation will be recorded. We look forward to meeting you soon!
Film Screening and Community Discussion

What: Film screening and discussion of Roosevelt High School: Beyond Black and White
When: Friday April 21 at 7-8:30 p.m.
Where: Ballard High School auditorium (1418 NW 65th St; enter the auditorium from NW 67th St)
Who: Everyone is welcome! Ballard PTSA DEI committee invites you to join us, the Lincoln High School PTSA DEI committee, and Roosevelt Alumni for this exciting event. Roosevelt alumni strongly encourage any other 1970’s Seattle Schools alumni to join in the discussion and share their experiences.
Why: To build community, learn from each other, and use what we learn to improve racial equity
